It always comes up to 68%, every damn time, and then it crashes! When I try again, the same thing happens! Everything is smooth sailing up to that point, and then it stops, and the estimated time to finish starts fluctuating, and then it goes dead, just resets the computer wholesale! This is pissing me off something fierce, I have no idea what to do. Any help would be welcome, TIA.

First, is this a clean install, or are you installing XP to just one separate partition? I'll assume the former, because if it were the latter, you would've probably mentioned it. Now, are you attempting an installation from scratch each time you restart, or have you tried selecting the "Repair Installation" (or whatever it's called) option on the first menu? If you haven't, go ahead and try it. Finally, it's possible that your install CD is damaged and the installation can't read some essential file, though it's strange that this would reset the machine completely.
