| I have - well, I had - a dual boot installation of Vista Beta 2, and I can't seem to get rid of it right. I followed the steps prescribed by Microsoft – booted to XP, ran e:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force, deleted boot.bak and bootsect.bak, restarted, and… now not only is the dual boot screen not gone, but I can't get to XP any more – when I choose XP, it apparently still tries to boot into Vista, says it can't, and I have to restart. Where did I go wrong? |

Hard to say, exactly… How about showing us the contents of your boot.ini file, maybe that'll help establish the cause of the problem.
One easy fix to try would be runing the repair utility off your XP install CD, and using "fixmbr" to, well, fix the MBR. If that doesn't work, then I'd say you'll have to reinstall Windows XP to get it to work.
(Before reinstalling / reformatting, attach the HD to a working machine and back up your data, of course.) |
