I have heard a lot of stories that IE is insecure and one of the main doors for various malware. But I am not sure should I believe it or not. After all IE is Microsoft product integrated into their system and they should know best how to protect it. Right? They are regularly publishing updates and security patches so I feel it is not such situation as everybody is trying to present. So is the viruses reason to dump IE?

Unfortunately IE is inherently insecure. It has a lot security issues which enable malicious software to enter your system. Especially because of its integration with system and privileges to run everything it likes. On the other hand it is the most used browser on the most used operative system so it is the best target for attackers. During years situation has improved, namely story about notorious ActiveX controls, but security remained the biggest issue with IE. There are several browsers (Firefox, Opera) which have less issues of this kind and are IMHO overall better.
