| I am having trouble with my Compaq Presario V5000. When I turn it on the Compaq logo appears and then a black screen with white lettering that reads the same paragraphs over and over. They inclue the Copyright, Realtek, "Media test failure, check cable", and exiting PXE ROM. I do not have sufficent knowledge on computers and am seeking any advice or assistance on this matter. It has not been physichally damaged and was working fine just before I opened it again. I have had all the cords for the power and cable in place and the power of the battery is fine. If anyone has any knowledge that could further assist me, it would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi Dominic!
This issue is often caused by incorrect setting in BIOS or a bad boot device, like bad hard disk drive.
Some useful steps how to fix this you can find here:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000229.htm
Also, the possible cause could be if 2 IDE devices (DVD and HDD) are both set to Master on the same IDE cable. Check that as well and move the DVD to IDE 2 if neccessary.
I saw Realtek in your problem description. So, I guess you have Realtek network adapter.
Then the most likely cause could be if PC is trying to boot from a network because it can't find a bootable media ( you don't have a bootable HDD or Operating System installed )...
To solve this just put the XP (or other OS you are using)CD in the drive, make sure it is set to Boot from the CD-ROM first in the BIOS, and install XP...
I hope this will be useful to you. |
