I had a Dell Dimension 9100 with a Pentium 4 630and I decided to switch to Pentium D 820. I installed it the same way I’ve installed the previous one but the computer will not boot. I'm pretty sure the 9100 is compatible with Pentium D 820 since it was in its configuration options when I first bought it. The only cause I can think of is that the 820 I got was defective. But I wanted to hear someone else’s opinion – could it be something else?
Well, maybe you should update the BIOS. And if you haven’t then reset the CMOS. If you have done it already and you’re really sure you haven’t done anything wrong during the installation then there’s no other option –the chip is bad. It is an unusual situation but it may happen – you need to replace it.
