I’ve set up a small network at my home consisting of two PCs and a crossover cable. One of them is running WinXP, the other one Win98. Even though I’m not some expert on networks, everything is working fine. The DSL connection is also OK except for one little problem. I can’t establish a DCC chat or send a file via mIRC – it times out and I get the ‘local host unknown’ message. Could anyone offer me some help with this? Thanks in advance!

The computer running XP should be acting as the router. I think that you can get your problem fixed by adding ports to the profile of your DSL connection and then changing the listen DCC port on the IRC/DCC Serve options from port 59 to port 6059. You should then add that port and forwarded it to your Win98 computer. You also need to download a program that is a port mapper so that it would forward your ISP address correctly to the computer that’s connecting from IRC to you. I hope this is what you’re looking for.
