Due to high prices of new Windows operating system, I am thinking about buying a laptop without Windows so Ive heard Dell ships Inspiron with Ubuntu distro on it. Does anyone have experience with this hardware/OS combination? Is it a good deal? Is it possible to put some other distribution on it besides Ubuntu? I presume Dell laptops are optimized for ubuntu?

Canonical corporation, which currently finances Ubuntu society, has some special deals with Dell so they optimized the distro specially for Dells computers. I think its worth at least trying, because you can always reformat your hdd and put any other distro, or spend some more money and buy Windows if you need it.
