If they don't have FireWire, I can just connect it to the iMac through USB, right? But then, would I be able to connect it to the PC, also through USB? I don't know, but I'm assuming there's a possibility that this setup needs different port types for connection to different machines. Do I absolutely have to get an external drive with both FW and USB if I want this sort of connection?

If I understand correctly, you want both machines to be connected to the HD at the same time? Not one at a time? If so, I'm not sure but I think port types won't be an issue (assuming there's more than one!). Still, why would you want an external drive without a FW port? USB-only are only marginally cheaper, so is this some sort of superstition or what?
