I am an experienced Windows user, and I recently installed a Redhat Linux on separate partition. However, I can’t install my usb printer under Linux. I downloaded the Linux drivers for my HP printer but I can’t make them work. Do I need to update kernel or something? Thanks for help.

First of all, there are some usb printers that are “windows fed” printers and therefore cannot be run under Linux (as far as I know). You haven’t mentioned the exact model of your printer; google for it to see whether anyone succeeded in setting it up under linux, and check for details such as distro and kernel version. And, yes: are there official drivers for your printer on HP’s website?
