| On my old desktop machine (XP), I have an integrated wireless LAN card as well as an added (internal) network interface card. They are both switched on, and everything seems to be working, even though only one of them is actually connected to the router. However, I heard recently that having two different NICs in one system can degrade the traffic speed somewhat, the system defaulting to the slower of the two devices. Is that true? Should I then disable the one I'm not using? |

| That's the first I heard of it, which doesn't necessarily make it untrue, granted, but still. I think whoever passed on that bit of info your way must have been talking about two working NICs, otherwise it doesn't make much sense. While you can go to the device manager and disable the card you're not using, I doubt it will make much difference. |
