Trouble witn setting up my router NetGear MR814

Hello, all. I'm very new to networking, and my router is very old, so be patient with me, please?
I'm trying to set up the Net Gear MR814 router for VPN access, and for that I need to update the firmware. I'm trying to do it by the book, but the instructions seem to be outdated. Can someone tell me where I could find a more up to date manual/tutorial?
