I am having a problem incorporating a DLink DES 1105 switch into my home LAN. I am currently using a peer-to-peer network, on a DLink DI 624 router. I am using a Dell Latitude D820 laptop, and a Brother MFC 8860DN printer. Operating system is XP sp2.
When the printer and latop are connected directly to the router, things work fine, and I can both use the internet (via cable modem) and send print jobs to the printer. When the switch is between my laptop and the router, again, I can still get to the internet fine. When the switch is interposed between the router and the printer, however, I cannot send print jobs to the printer. Pings sent to the printer in this configuration time out with 100% loss. I can ping the printer fine when it is connected directly to the router and no switch is in the system. No changes were made to the IP address of the printer bewteen steps. All the cabling works fine (tested by interchanging the lengths in the configuration that works), and, yes, the switch is plugged in, and the appropriate lights are on.
I feel like I am missing something obvious. Can anyone help? |
