Hi, I'm having trouble with my Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop, specifically with the monitor. It starts flashing on and off every now and then, like dimming quickly, and eventually it turns off for good. Sometimes when I restart everything's OK, but sometimes it's not. I'm thinking it's the monitor that's acting up, but it might also be the video card, right? Any way to find out without buying a new one?

I think it's highly unlikely that video card problems would manifest this way, so I'd say with 90 certainty that the monitor is the source of your trouble. To confirm this, just hook up an external monitor from a desktop machine and see how that one works. If it's doing fine, than I'm right.
