What are the three major types of routing protocols? This routing thing is giving me a headache ever since I started learning it. I know that it is not something that a layman should know, but since this is actually for a test that I’m supposed to take next month, I must get down to it and clear some important fact right away.

I think that this is a pretty difficult area of IT for people who are still new to this to comprehend. It takes a lot of practice to completely understand what routing actually is. But since I guess that you are just a beginner and that the level of the test which you are going to take is not intermediate or advanced I think that simple naming without too much explanation will do. So, the three major types of routing protocols are: link-state routing protocols, path vector protocols and distance vector routing protocols. It would be too complicated to give a description of each of those and I reckon that you can find that in your text book, but I advise you to browse the net and see if you can find some explanations which are simpler.
