Hi all! I’ve been experiencing very odd problem with my Maxtor 80GB Harddisk. Every now and then I hear some strange click-sound. This usually happens when I transfer large amount of data. I reformatted the disk but the problem remained. I did a full-scan, and no errors were found. Also, there haven’t been any write or read error, just the odd clicking sound.

Many people experienced similar problem with Maxtor hard disk drives. As a matter of fact, I own Maxtor 80 gb harddrive too, with exactly same problem! One thing I’ve noticed – when my old PSU died and I changed it, there were no more clicking sounds. But now it’s 6 months since I’ve changed my PSU and the clicking sounds are back… Because I didn’t have read/write problems, I don’t intend to change the hdd until it dies. In the meantime I make regular backups of important data – I suggest you do that too.
