Hello, everyone. I need some advice regarding the transfer of a large quantity of data (several tens of GB worth of) from an old desktop computer (my father's) to my new laptop. The thing is, the old machine doesn't have a DVD burner drive. It has a CD burner, but it would take a long time to move it via CD burning. I don't have a LAN either. Any ideas on how best to pull this off? Thanks.

Just get a plain old crossover cable, connect the two computers, and let 'er rip. No need for an actual network (router and all that) if all you want to do is move some files.
