This thing somehow got to my machine, and I swear I didn't install anything of the sort, and I know no one else's been using the computer lately. Anyway, this Spy Sheriff turned itself on the other day and scanned the system for malware. It found A LOT of problems, but it won't correct them unless I buy its full and licensed version. This sounds fishy, and I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume this Spy Sheriff is adware of some kind itself, am I right? If so, how do I get rid of it?

Your guess is right, it's what you call Rogue Anti-Spyware (rogue sheriff, get it? Ah, never mind.) You should deal with it the same way you do with any other spyware – get a decent cleaning utility such as Spybot or HijackThis and scrape the piece of crap off your HDD. Also, get some protection, or the "mysterious" installation might just come back another day…
