Splitting modem? Why do you want to split modem. I split modem for my internet connection. And there are three ways of sharing internet connection (modem ) with other computer. One is directly. You use that if you have only two computers in network. And it is the best possible connection. Other is to buy a switcher. And the third is to use the router. This second and third option are something that you have to make settings. And it is not very easy thing to do. In that case I suggest you to ask someone that has more experience . I really don’t know what else to suggest you to do in order to split the modem.
