Sims 2 problem

I am unable to run Sims 2. The game freezes on the first splash screen and I can not exit it. I can only reboot computer and try again. This happens every time I try to play Sims 2. My computer meets hardware requirements (although barely). Do you have any suggestions how can I solve this annoying problem?

There are few possibilities for such behavior. The problem might be with your sound or video card conflicting with DirectX 9 and you should reinstall DirectX and see what happens. Second possibility is driver issue and if first solution does not work then download new driver and install them. Third option is not likely but you might have some hardware or overheating problem.
