Hello, and welcome to H-Desk forums.
Well, it's not easy to determine the reason for your Shutdown problem, but here are several possible reasons you need to check up next time before you shut down your PC:
• Some people claimed that the Nvidia Driver Helper Service (used with Nvidia video cards) causes extremely slow shut downs. To solve the problem you must update your video card driver.
• Other reported that disabling the terminal services greatly expedites the shut down process. The Terminal Services are used for remote assistance and fast user switching. I guess you do not use any of these features, so all you have to do is to disable the Terminal Services. It's pretty simple process, you should enter the Services console by typing SERVICES.MSC command at the Run prompt, find the service and stop it.
• Some privacy software could enable your Windows hibernation and visual memory cache, which could extremely ease the shut down process. Mainly, antivirus software like Norton or McAffe enable it after installation, although this feature is by default off. To determine whether or not these features are enabled on your PC, type the GPEDIT.MSC command at the Run prompt to load the Group Policy Editor. Then, navigate through the console tree to Computer Configuration >> Windows Settings >> Security Settings >> Local Policies >> Security Options. Find the Shutdown there and verify is Clear Virtual Memory Pagefile option disabled. If this option is enabled, you can disable it by double clicking on the setting and choosing the Disabled option.
