| I have recently installed a firewall and I am still trying to figure out just what is that it should block. I have heard, for example, there were some network attacks based on exploiting ICMP packets. However, I know these are important. I am not sure if firewall should block it or not. If anyone could give me any suggestion, that would be great. |

| While some people claim ICMP packets are not too important, and that you can block it, others think it could put your system in even greater jeopardize. For one thing, ICMP packets are protocols in charge for communication between host computer and data you are continuously receiving, and disabling it could make all this less smooth, and sometimes even less secure. On the other hand, if you leave them, you can indeed wind up with your computer activated, but the probability is smaller, although still existent. It seems that there is a tough choice you need to make, but that is not so. Do not disable ICMP. Watch where you are surfing, watch out for suspicious redirections and everything should be all right. |
