I have a Verizon DSL connection, and I'd like to set it up so both of my computers can utilize it. I have a Westell A90 modem, which I am also told is a "bridge", so it should be able to handle this. However, I can't connect the 2nd computer no matter what I do, and sometimes I screw up so badly that the first one also loses the ability to connect. Someone told me that there is no way to get this modem to act as bridge on this connection, but did not elaborate. Is this true, and why?

As far as I know, what you heard is basically true. The reason is basically that a bridge modem isn't a router, and sometimes can't act like one. I know a guy who tried the same and eventually found out that Verizon issues a single IP and expects a router to assign specific ones to client machines. Of course, the bridge is unable to do that, so the connection doesn't work. Just get a router, they're not that expensive nowadays.
