| Hello. I am about to buy one more computer for my home. I want small network with only two computers connected, but I dont know how to do that correctly. I think it is not difficult for a beginner to start like this, therefore Ill need some little help to do this. What is the most important, and so on. Thanks in advance. |

| If you want to make connection between only two computers, than there is no need to use the Switch adapter, but make sure you have the twisted pair or crossover UTP cable made before you do any file sharing. Both computers must have network adapters, properly installed and turned on. When you plug in the cable go inside the control panel and under network connections select properties (with the right click). Inside, on general tab, make sure you have all options enabled including File and printer sharing for Microsoft networks. After you checked that, you can set up IP addresses, or you can use auto-config, DHCP otherwise. Set the names for your computer, under system properties computer name, and give the same workgroup name for both computers. You dont need to set up domain. After reboot, you can now select which partition or folder is going to be visible for other computers with the right click and than sharing and security option. There, just select Enable file sharing, and thats it. |
