Setting a port for internet play

I have bought Lynksys WRT54GL wireless router. I needed this because I have bought laptop with wireless connection and I needed some solution for sharing internet connection with desktop computer. Anyway, after I connected everything I was unable to play any game online. Friend told me that I need to forward ports on the router. That is fine, but how can I do that.

If you have not changed default user name and password for router then follow next procedure. Enter 192.168.1.1 in address bar of your browser and in the prompt that shows after this leave user name blank and enter admin as password. You will see configuration utility in browser window after this. Click on Application and gaming tab and enter port range to be forwarded. These values you can find in game configuration. Select Both for protocol and enter local IP address of your desktop computer. Finally check Enable check box, save the settings and exit configuration utility. Now you will be able to connect to server and play the game online.
