I have a comparatively new Seagate HDD and everything was ok up to a few days ago. Then all of a sudden my PC at home stopped operating and it wouldn’t boot at all. I tried like ten times to boot it and it wouldn’t. A friend told me that the problem might be caused by failing IDE controller. What do you think about this? How to solve this problem?
There are ways to check out whether the problem is caused by failing IDE cable or something else. Each HDD comes in package together with a spare IDE cable. If this is not the case, buy another one or borrow from a friend and connect your HDD with your motherboard via that other IDE cable. If your PC boots, then you have a problem with IDE cable but if it still doesn’t want to boot then the HDD is causing the problem. Another thing that you should check is whether the HDD is well adjusted and check whether it is marked as master or slave because that is an important setting. If none of these works, have it examined and serviced.
