I have decided to learn something about SQL and Microsoft SQL server. Because I am learning I can not afford to pay for full Microsoft SQL Server and I found something about Microsoft SQL Desktop edition (MSDE) which is free, as I understood. Can this SQL Desktop Edition be used for learning purposes and is it really free?

Microsoft SQL Desktop Edition is free and it comes with a many Microsoft development tools. It can, also, be downloaded from Microsoft web site free of charge. It is more then enough for learning SQL and Microsoft SQL internals. It is also enough if you are planning to develop applications for MS SQL. Only difference is that it can not handle requests from many client connections over the network. It is, as the name says, only for desktop.
