I have a cable internet and my computer is connecting to cable modem over Lynksys router. I use Windows XP Professional and have installed every possible protection on my computer. But, there is a one problem. I am not able to use effectively P2P programs. I either have a LowID or can not connect at all. My friend told me to forward ports on router nut I do not know how to do that. Can you explain this procedure to me?

No problem. Open you browser end enter 192.168.1.1 in address bar and hit enter key. You will be prompted to enter username and password. If you had not changed anything in router settings then use default password admin and leave user name field blank. Next you will see first page of router configuration utility. Click on Application and Gaming tab to enter setup for port forwarding. In next screen enter some descriptive name for application (eMule , for example) , enter port range you will like it to use (you can find out what ports these applications are using in their settings, or you can enter some port here and later change application port). For protocol choose both, enter IP address of your computer and tick enable check box. Save changes and exit configuration utility. Now you will be able to use P2P programs.
