Hi there. I bought another computer and I would like to make a home network with these two computers I have. I have considered making direct connection with crossover cable but some people advised me to buy a router instead. Is it better option to make a network with the router then with crossover cable?

Hello. Networking two computers is better with router. It gives you more flexibility (one computer does not need to be powered on when you try to access Internet from another one) and it gives you better protection because router acts as a hardware firewall. Without a question, this is a lot better option then crossover cable.
