Repeat after me: PATA-SATA-ATA! That’s what my PC instructor always says to us when we ask him which standard to choose when we have to buy a new HDD. And I’m always afraid to admit that I have no idea what he’s taking about. Can you please make it clear for us, dummies, what those three horrible acronyms mean? Thanks a million!

Oh, I understand you completely! I’m such dummy when it comes to all kinds of technologies, no mater how hard I try to understand something. But I have managed to somehow remember what to select when I’m buying a HDD. The oldest standard is ATA and parallel ATA, that is, PATA and the newer SATA. All I know is that this SATA bus controllers are much faster then the previous ATA. But to tell you honestly, though I have had both versions I really can’t tell the difference between them. Maybe because I’m not an advanced but hoe user. I’m sure that you would also not be able to see the difference. So, good luck with your instructor!
