The other day I closed Mozilla (the usual way, clicking the X in the corner), and while it shut down, a pop-up window informed me that it has committed an illegal operation and will be shut down. Whatever, I thought. Much to my surprise, the next time I started it, it turns out all my e-mails are gone! Now, I'm not panicking, because I'm sure there's a way to restore these, and one of you nice people is going to explain to me how to do this. Right? RIGHT?!

There's a really good troubleshooting FAQ at mozilla.org, too bad more people don't read it before posting. But here, I'll retell it for you: The gist of the matter is that your prefs.js file got corrupted in the crash, and now you need to restore it. How close its state ill be to yesterday depends on the last time you backed up your profile.
