Hi! I am new to laptops and wireless so my question might sound stupid. I bought a Toshiba laptop a few days ago and the only problem I’m having is that I cannot connect to the internet. I get the wireless signal but I can’t access the network. I don’t know what to do now…is this a laptop problem or could it be something else? Thanks a lot for any kind of help!

The problem isn’t necessarily connected to your laptop. It may be that your connecting to a rogue access point and such wireless devices degrade the quality of the network. If you’re using WinXP, you can restrict wireless communications to access point networks only, so you’ll avoid rogue access points found in "peer-to-peer" mode. To do so you should Select “Start” then “Connect To > Wireless Network Connection”. Click ‘Properties’ button that you’ll find under ‘General’ tab. Choose the ‘Advanced’ tab now and click ‘Advanced’ button. And there you can select ‘Access point (infrastructure) networks only’ option . I hope this will help.
