Hello, everyone. For reasons best left untold, I need to reformat my entire drive. I've prepared everything, backups and all, but recently I've heard that the safest way of doing this is not from the command line at startup, but rather form the OS itself (Windows XP Home Edition). Is this even possible? I need a full format, not just a single partition, and I have only one HD – will the OS stay loaded in the RAM somehow, and then copy itself back, or what? How am I supposed to do this, anyway? Thanks for any help you can give.

Actually, you might have misunderstood whomever you got that advice from. Probably he was telling you to format from XP, but not when the system is loaded – you should boot from the install CD and format as part of reinstalling the system. To do this, you need to setup your boot order in BIOS to have CD listed first. Then you put in the Install CD and restart. The setup should prompt you for formatting and partitioning the HDD before starting the installation process itself.
