Rbot worm uses your webcam to watch you

Hello. A friend told me about Rbot worm that can use my webcam to watch me. I find it hard to believe in this story. What if my webcam is not active? How it can gain access to it? I would really like to hear your opinion about this and to tell me is this really possible? Thank you in advance for your attention.

This is true. Rbot worm has many versions and one of them allow attacker to record webcam footage, beside other things like stealing your data, gaining access to computer and use it as a platform for DDoS attacks. It can use your webcam even when you are not using it because webcam is connected to computer and can be turned on by software request. I have to add that this virus can be easily removed from a system.
