Hi guys. Having trouble with Verizon DSL connection… it seems to be disconnecting me at random, whether or not I'm actually doing anything online at all. Never had this problem with earlier connection, using the same router/modem, same XP, and most settings. Sometimes the drop is accompanied by this weird "zzzt!" sound, like my monitor has been turned on after a long time off… though I don’t see it flickering or anything. Tech support is, wouldn't ya know it, totally useless. Any ideas?

Maybe this'll sounds strange, but the sound sort of suggests a powering issue, though I'm not sure how it would work… Maybe your new connection setup reconfigured your power saving settings, which are now messing with your connectivity. Check Display Properties / Screensaver / Power / Power Schemes. I'd leave it at always on, unless it's already there. Other then that, check if your power supply is working properly.
