Here's the problem: Whenever I shut down the computer using Win XP's "turn off" menu, it restarts again almost immediately! It looks as if it's off, but not more than 3 or 4 seconds pass before it turns back on. I suspect it's a motherboard issue, and so far have tried disconnecting the power button, but somehow the same thing still happens. Would a BIOS flash help? Anything else I should try? TIA.

Unplugging the power on/off button is no use, because the system's power is obviously primarily BIOS-controlled. A flash might help, but you needn't really go that far to handle this. Just locate the wakeup settings in your BIOS (don't know exactly where, don't have that board) and make sure they are all disabled; mouse movement trigger, network traffic trigger, all of them. This should keep it from restarting.
