I'm having a bit of a strange situation with the network setup on my desktop machine that I got from a friend. I brought it into a house that already had a wireless LAN, so I went ahead and bought a wireless network card (see subject line). However, when I installed it, it didn't work. Apparently the machine already had a disfunctional NIC installed (don't know the model) and it somehow bothers the new WMP54G. How do I resolve this, please?

Well if the old card isn't working, why don't you just remove it and stay with the new one? Or did you say it was integrated? If so, you should already have disabled it... to disable the old card, try either the BIOS or the Device Manager. (Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager, right-click and choose "Disable").
