I'm having major problems with a new router, the aforementioned WRTP54G. Dial tone missing about half the time, connection drops, huge lags… the issues just keep changing, often going back and forth. Power cycling resolves them, but only temporarily. Local tech support useless. Any help or shared experience appreciated. TIA.

This model is mentioned often in "router trouble" topics. I think someone said that even Vonage admitted it has out-of-the-box issues, so it's not a very good router choice, generally speaking. Most of the time, people manage to solve their problems with this one by flashing their firmware. However, the latest version wasn't always the right one for the issue at hand. So I suggest you go to the site Vonage and download and try several versions of the firmware they offer, until you find the one that suits you.
