Hello! I have bought a laptop recently, but I cannot connect it to the present internet connection on my desktop. I connect to ADSL via Sagem Fast 800 modem, which has a usb only connection. I am trying to connect desktop and laptop with Ethernet cable, but there is no chance that laptop sees my desktop. Any ideas?

First off, I highly suggest you to replace your modem with a router, any Linksys ADSL router will do it. You will then connect both computers to the router and you won’t have to have your PC turned on in order to provide the laptop with the internet. Other solution is – try some other cable, maybe the one you were using for the connection, is a straight-thru cable, but you need a cross-over cable for the direct connection of two PCs.
