| Hello. My uncle gave me a Compaq Armada Laptop 1700 as a gift. It is very nice. Its old but has great Pentium II processor, with 64 mb of ram and a 4 gig hard drive. It support wireless cards and still after so many years it works pretty well. Battery still holds on quite well. Now, it has Win 98 installed. I have tried to install Win XP, but I didnt knew that its BIOS is on the hard drive so I accidentally deleted it. Now I dont know how get things back. Help! I am so nervous. |

| I had similar problem with Armada just like you did, and my advice to you is, just calm down. You must make a bootable recovery floppy disc. Download necessary files from the Compaq site, as the BIOS for your model also. You must find the exact one, because otherwise it wont work. When you download that turn the Armada off, insert the floppy into the drive and than hold (I think this is the way as I can remember) ctrl + shift + F12. That should force your Armada to boot from floppy, and automatically to copy all files needed for normal operation. In my situation, laptop was frozen after that, and I got scared too, didnt know what to do! I have just plugged out the power cable and after that it turned it self off. When I pushed the power button on again, with the XP CD inside, everything was normal. The installation started and everything was fine. |
