I have received e-mail from eBay this morning asking me to verify my credit card number and to update my data on their web site. Friend, who set by me when I received e-mail, told me not to do this and that this is a phishing attempt. I have argued with him, but finally I decided to listen because he knows about these things much more then I do. I was just wanted to ask is really possible to attempt phishing by mail?

Yes, it is possible to attempt phishing by mail. In fact, this is the most popular way of phishing. Attackers are counting on curiosity and lack of caution to gain information. Phishing mails looks exactly like they are sent by a legit company. Remember one thing. No legit and trustworthy company will ever ask you through mail to enter credit card data or other personal information. Every such e-mail is a phishing attempt and should be reported.
