I have two laptops and I would like to connect them in some kind of home network to share files and play some games with my friends. I know that desktop computers can be connected via crossover cable but can similar scenario be accomplished with wireless connection? I hope to hear from you soon.

You can accomplish similar results with wireless connection. To establish peer to peer over WiFi you have to set wireless network cards in Ad Hoc mode. Then you will be able to connect your two laptops just like with crossover cable. Have in mind thou, this is not as reliable as cable connection and it can be a lot slower. I hope I have helped you.
