I want to try the latest Linux on my computer and that’s why I need to partition my HD first. Partition Magic gives me several options on how this new partition I’m making should be formatted and I’m not sure which one I should choose or if I should use Partition Magic for this since I plan to install Linux. So, my question is should I use Partition Magic and what format should I use for this partition I’ll be putting Linux on? Thanks in advance!

It’s OK to use Partition Magic for this. First of all, you will actually need to make two partitions: the swap partition and the root file system partition. A swap partition should be about 256 MB and you should format it with Linux Swap. Then you should create a root filesystem partition and format it with Linux ext3 .It’s mount should point to /. It will be asking you weather you want primary or logical but this is not that important and you can choose either one. Anyway, if you’re uncomfortable with creating swap partition on your own you can choose ‘automatic partitioning’ and you won’t have to deal with it but it’s set to manual by default so take care about that.
