I have reinstalled Windows XP Professional a few days ago. Now, whenever I start windows it finds new hardware and asks for some PCI simple communication controller. Of course I do not know what is it and I have not added new hardware since prior Windows installation. Strange thing is that all hardware is working and I didnt try only old soft modem because I am using cable modem now. Could this be a problem?

Yes that is definitely a problem. PCI simple communication controller is a part of soft modems. If you are not using it then you can plug it out and the problem will be solved:). Second option is to find what model your modem is and download driver for it (of course if you have CD with driver which came with modem you can install it from there). There are also some generic drivers for PCI simple communication controller which might help you.
