Why would you want to have two OS on one computer. Vista needs very strong performance, so I think that you will have problem. The truth is that I dont know how strong computer you have. Generally, it is possible to have two OS on one HDD. I had Windows 98 and Windows XP on one HDD. And I didnt have any problems with it. But I dont know if tat is possible with Vista. There is much more difference between Vista and WinXP than WinXP and Windows 98. But you can always try for yourself and see.
