My guess would be your grandma is behind a proxy or firewall, or both. You'll need to configure some settings to make sure the update takes off. See here for details: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nws.nsf/docid/199831014949
Note, however, that even when you manage to start this, the update may take several hours over a dial-up connection, so you might be better off downloading the db on another machine, then burning them onto a disc and copying them to the machine with dial-up access. |
