No sound in avi files

Hello! I am running Windows XP Professional operating system with Service Pack 2 installed and I have very weird problem. Namely, I have not any sound in my avi files. I have downloaded whole pack of codec because I thought that is cause of problem, but that did not helped me. Have you any idea? Thank you!

Hello! Well, I will ask you first to check if your sound is muted. If that it is not case, then see if you need driver for sound card. Try to download the newest driver, but before you install it first remove existing one. I think that something of mentioned is cause of problem. I kindly ask you to let me know about this.
