No connection on Linksys WRT54G router,

I recently got the aforementioned Linksys router, trying to establish a small home network, but I can't seem to pull it off. I configured it as best I can and still it won't establish connection regularly, and when it does, it tends to drop every now and again. Both computers are running Win XP, and the DSL connection is provided through Verizon's default Westell modem. Can anyone offer some advice?

Well, the first think you should look into is the interaction between your router and your modem it can sometimes be tricky to get the two devices to work together correctly. By default, the Westell is working as a router, and if you want to use another router you'll have to configure the Westell to work in "bridge mode". See here: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/13600
