Hi, I think I may have wrecked my CPU. What I did was this: After running some heat tests, I found out the system temperature was a little high – up to 70 degrees. So I went in, took the processor and the heat sink off, cleaned it, and applied some thermal compound. However, the heat went even higher – as high as 95! Figuring I added too much, I took it off again, cleaned it, added less compound, and put it back in. All of a sudden, my system goes dead. I can't even access the BIOS, in fact I'm getting nothing on the monitor and hear no system beep codes. The CPU fan spins, though, and the CD light comes on as well. I don't know what it is I might've done, but I sure hope you guys can tell me, and that it's repairable… Thanks in advance.

My guess would be you either damaged the CPU when removing or re-attaching it, or that you just didn't connect it properly the second time. Take it off again, and try to put it back making sure no pins are bent or broken; also it should slide in comfortably, and you shouldn't have to apply too much pressure. If it still doesn't work, I'm afraid odds are you did damage it physically. You needn't have removed the CPU in the first place, you should've just aired the dust out of the fan on board. Even if it's harder to get to that way, it's usually safer.
