Networking Between my PC and Mac

Hello. I have one iMac laptop and one more PC computer at my home. I never saw how does networking between these two platforms goes, but no matter that I want to make small network between them. What do I need to know, what services are needed to be set up and up to on my Mac in order for everything to work properly. How to do it? Thanks in advance.

Greetings. To establish a physical connection between you iMac and a PC, you will need just one cross-over cable, but if you want to share your internet connection also, than youll need two more normal pair mode cables and a HUB. Regarding service connection, youll need the following services on a iMac installed and enabled: Personal file sharing for Apple share service, File transfer protocol or so called FTP, HTTP for web page browsing, LPR which means Line Printer Request and Samba server, configured to interact with Windows File sharing protocols.
