I installed ubuntu last week. This is my first linux (a friend told me to install it), so I keep Windows on the first partition anyway. I like the way Ubuntu looks like, but it seems I have connection problems. My NIC works under Ubuntu and I have the internet connection, but sometimes it happens that I cant connect, that is I get the error Cable not plugged. I dont happen to have similar problems in Windows.

It must be that drivers are bad; this is particularly true for on-board integrated NICs. Some of them have problems with Windows too. If this is your case, Id recommend you to buy some cheap 5-10$ NIC, anything is better than an onboard one. Another solution is to search for drivers for your nic.
